SONOFF ZBMINI Extreme Zigbee Smart Switch ZBMINIL2 (No Neutral Required)

Sonoff ZBMini-L2, or ZBMINI Extreme is the new version of the single-live-wire (no-neutral) ZigBee smart relay, remotely controllable via Internet when connected to a Zigbee Bridge. This is one of the smallest Zigbee smart switch which can be easily fit in the smallest EU-type/86 type/120 type mounting box.

It works with different type of external switches to control your devices, like rocker light switch, push button wall switch.etc. As a main advantage, no neutral wire is required, so it has easy installation & simple use for most use cases. It also support two-way switching, so it can be used for staircase lights with two switches.

What is Zigbee?

Zigbee is a standardized wiresless smart home / IoT protocol, created specifically for communication between smart home devices. Zigbee devices do not have a Wi-Fi chip and do not connect to a Wi-Fi router directly, but connect to and communicate with a Zigbee gateway or hub, which is necessary component of Zigbee systems.

 

The Zigbee technology supports in general a short-range (10-100 meters line-of-sight, depending on device capabilities) and low-rate wireless data transfer, with low power consumption, so it is helps specially long battery life for battery powered Zigbee sensors.

 

It helps to reduce load on WiFi networks, which is beneficial in case of a smart home system with larger number of components, because ZIgbee devices' communciation is managed in a separated Zigbee network and the Zigbee-WiFi gateway is the only component which connects to the local WiFi network, using only one IP address.

 

Also, Zigbee technology supports the so-called mesh network logic, meaning those Zigbee devices powered by a permanent 230V AC power act as a Zigbee repeater and forward the communication to the Zigbee gateway in case it is out of the range of a Zigbee sensor. This ‘signal-hopping’ gives mesh networks more range and more reliability than traditional ‘star networks’.

ZBMini-L2 / ZBMINI Extreme is compatible with Sonoff's Zigbee-WiFi gateways, Sonoff Zigbee Bridge and Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro (ZBBridge-P), and with eWeLink compatible SmartWise Zigbee Bridge Pro gateway, you can control the Zigbee devices with the same eWeLink app used to control Sonoff WiFi smart devices. The usual eWeLink platform features such as remote status, remote ON/OFF switching, schedulers and timers are also available, but please note that momentary switching (inching) function is not available for this Zigbee relay.

It is also compatible with the SmartThings hub, in which case it can be controlled using the SmartThing APP available for both iOS and Android. Remote on/off switching, scheduled off/on and many other functions are available in the SmartThings app.

It is also supprted by Amazon Alexqa Echo Speaker, NSPanel Pro's Zigbee hub and ZBDongle P and E versions.

It also can be added to Home Assistant by ZHA and Zigbee2mqtt for local control and OTA of the device.

The ZBMINI-L2 version is the product version of the relay that does not require the neutral wire, it only works with the phase (live) wire.

ZBMINI-L2 relay shall be installed behind the wall switch, and the min. power of the controlled lamp must be min. of 3W, but there is no need for an anti-flicker module.
